Thriving Families

Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA) offers Thriving Families, a free home visiting program for expectant families and families with young children in Washington, D.C. Through personalized support from trained parent educators, families receive guidance and resources to promote health and well-being, strengthen parenting skills, support healthy child development and help children thrive and prepare for school. 

Core services

  • Regular wellness home visits

  • Prenatal and postpartum education and support

  • Safe sleep and breastfeeding education

  • Positive parenting coaching and family-strengthening support

  • Early learning, child development and school readiness support

  • Individualized family support planning

  • Connections and referrals to community resources and services

Who can participate?

Washington, D.C., residents who are:

  • Expecting a baby

  • Parents or caregivers of children younger than 5

Our trained parent educators can also connect families with health care, mental health services, housing assistance, and other community resources when needed.
