Washington, DC – Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA) congratulates Bishop Yehiel Curry on his election as the next presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Bishop Curry, who is the first Black bishop elected to this leadership role, will begin his six-year term in October 2025. LSSNCA welcomes his leadership and continued partnership with the Church as the organization continues its mission of serving our neighbors and communities in need.
“We celebrate the election of Rev. Yehiel Curry as presiding bishop of the ELCA,” said Kristyn Peck, CEO of LSSNCA. “Through his many roles in the community – from social worker, to teacher, to mission developer and pastor – Bishop Curry has embodied the teachings of the Church. We look forward to building a strong and meaningful partnership with him.”
In this time of transition, LSSNCA extends deep gratitude to Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton for her leadership and support of our mission and the communities we serve.
