LSSNCA reaffirms its commitment to Upholding America’s Legacy of Welcome

Washington, D.C.— As the nation transitions to a new administration, Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA) hopes to work alongside the incoming administration to uphold America’s promise of being a beacon of hope for those seeking safety and opportunity. For more than a century, LSSNCA has played a pivotal role in welcoming forcibly displaced people, supporting them as they rebuild their lives, and fostering thriving, inclusive communities.

“Welcoming people fleeing persecution and seeking freedom reflects both LSSNCA’s mission and America’s enduring values,” said Kristyn Peck, CEO of LSSNCA. “As a nation, we have an obligation to uphold these values, ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to contribute to and thrive within our communities.”

LSSNCA calls for policies that uphold our legacy of welcome and strengthen protections for forcibly displaced persons. We urge the administration to support the protection of lifeline programs like the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP), and for Congress to prioritize comprehensive immigration reform that ensures efficient access to due process, keeps families together, and expands pathways to permanent residency and citizenship.

Guided by its value in the inherent dignity of all humans, LSSNCA remains steadfast in advancing solutions that enhance the well-being of all.
