LSSNCA Statement on Supreme Court Ruling on "Remain in Mexico" Policy

Today, the Supreme Court ruled that the Biden Administration was within its rights to end the inhumane Remain in Mexico (MPP) policy. Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA) celebrates this long-awaited news alongside the many grassroots movements, civic and nonprofit organizations, and all those who advocated for the repeal of this policy and lifted the experiences of thousands of individuals who were harmed by it. Today we hope we can start seeing families seeking safety and sanctuary in the United States be welcomed within our borders together as U.S. laws designate. Since 2019 those fleeing violence and persecution and seeking protection in the U.S. were remanded to dangerous border towns in Mexico where they faced violence, assault, kidnapping, and blackmail. No longer. We hope the Biden Administration’s response is swift and this immoral policy can finally take its rightful place in the past.
