LSSNCA Welcomes Eric Hembree to its Board of Directors

Washington, D.C. - Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA) is honored to announce the appointment of Eric Hembree to its Board of Directors. As the former Comptroller for the Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM), Mr. Hembree managed $5 billion annually in humanitarian assistance programs, domestically and worldwide. His financial stewardship enabled timely, life-saving humanitarian interventions and sustained the U.S. refugee resettlement infrastructure.

“We are honored to have Eric Hembree join our Board of Directors. He brings exceptional financial leadership experience to LSSNCA,” said Kristyn Peck, LSSNCA CEO. “His expertise in developing and executing budgets for human services and overseeing compliance with federal funding will be a great asset to our Board’s responsibilities of financial stewardship and risk management.”

Throughout his tenure at the State Department, Mr. Hembree oversaw emergency funding and the deployment of innovative financial instruments to respond to global crises, including support for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh; humanitarian aid in Venezuela, Syria, and Iraq; and critical responses to the global COVID-19 pandemic and the U.S. evacuation from Afghanistan.

“I look forward to serving as a member of the Board of Directors of Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area and advancing its work to support families and individuals in need in our region,” said Mr. Hembree.

LSSNCA is a human services and refugee welcome agency that accompanies our neighbors in need throughout Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. to foster resilience, self-sufficiency, and access to opportunities.
