Washington, DC – Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA) applauds the Department of Homeland Security’s announcement to redesignate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for El Salvador, Sudan, Ukraine, and Venezuela for an additional 18 months. This decision provides thousands of individuals with a renewed sense of stability and safety, free from the fear of deportation. It allows them to continue contributing positively to our communities’ social, cultural, and economic fabric.
“TPS provides critical humanitarian protection for our friends and neighbors who are unable to return to their home countries due to armed conflict, environmental disasters, or other severe crises,” said LSSNCA CEO Kristyn Peck. “Extending these protections is a step towards an inclusive and welcoming community.”
LSSNCA remains steadfast in our commitment to accompanying individuals and families in need and fostering a more inclusive and welcoming society for all. We will continue working with elected officials and community partners to ensure that those under TPS and other humanitarian programs receive the support they need to thrive in our shared communities.
