Workforce Development

Our Refugee and Immigrant Services’ Employment Services team helps newly-arrived refugee and immigrant adults secure work as quickly as possible. We assist our clients to find employment through employment orientation workshops, vocational training, interview prep, resume building, and networking opportunities. 

In 2019, our teams in Virginia and Maryland trained 380 adults for employment, helped 324 adults successfully obtain employment, and maintained over 100 DMV employer partnerships.

Our Employment Services can serve the following classification of people within 5 years of arrival or status determination and with residency in Virginia or Maryland:

  • Refugees
  • Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders
  • Asylees
  • Cuban/Haitian Entrants
  • Victims of Trafficking
  • Amerasians
  • Latifa arrived in Northern Virginia Spring 2019 with her husband and two children. Our job development team worked closely with Latifa and her husband on their resumes and helped them prepare applications for many professional-level jobs in the DMV. Read more about her employment journey.
