Desperate families fleeing domestic and gang violence will not be deterred when staying in Central America means risking the lives of their children and loved ones. Minors of all ages are arriving at the border both alone and accompanied by adults, and are being placed in youth shelters until a sponsor (parent, family member, or friend) can be approved to receive the child. To receive clearance, non-parent sponsors must complete a background check. The SRS program helps them complete that process.

Sponsors who come to us are often in difficult situations economically, and many are overwhelmed and confused. Some have tenuous legal situations. These families need comfort, food, clothing, and other immediate assistance. Donations such as food, cash, toiletries, ESL/GED books, and grocery stores gift certificates can be incredibly helpful.
