Our Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) offers immigration legal assistance to individuals and families in Virginia, Washington D.C., and Maryland. Our legal services are provided by multi-lingual, experienced staff that are accredited by the Department of Justice (DOJ)'s Office of Legal Access Programs (OLAP).
Services offered include:
- Initial consultation
- Family reunification
- USCIS forms preparation & completion
- TPS application
- Liaison between clients and USCIS offices
Last year, we served 107 individuals through this programming. Our legal services are open to all individuals seeking legal assistance with USCIS forms and applications. Individuals whom we cannot serve are referred to other service providers and resources in the area. Client fees vary depending on the extent of services needed, and are separate from those established by USCIS.
SAFE RELEASE SERVICES
Desperate families fleeing domestic and gang violence will not be deterred when staying in Central America means risking the lives of their children and loved ones. Minors of all ages are arriving at the border both alone and accompanied by adults, and are being placed in youth shelters until a sponsor (parent, family member, or friend) can be approved to receive the child. To receive clearance, non-parent sponsors must complete a background check. The SRS program helps them complete that process.
Sponsors who come to us are often in difficult situations economically, and many are overwhelmed and confused. Some have tenuous legal situations. These families need comfort, food, clothing, and other immediate assistance. Donations such as food, cash, toiletries, ESL/GED books, and grocery stores gift certificates can be incredibly helpful.
