2019 SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION.
Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area will award multiple scholarships for the 2019-2020 school year. For over 100 years, LSS/NCA has served the most vulnerable children in our community, envisioning wholeness and justice for all. In that vision, the scholarships are intended to further the dreams and success of community members by awarding funds to further education in undergraduate institutions or assist individuals in obtaining vocational training.
Individuals may apply for both scholarships if they meet the eligibility criteria. Please review the Scholarship FAQs for additional information.
2019 LSS/NCA Bold Journey Scholarships (In an amount not to exceed) $10,000
Consideration for the award will be weighted towards promising applicants who have demonstrated the ability to achieve in the face of adversity. The scholarship will enable him/her to pursue an undergraduate or graduate education and/or vocational training at an accredited vocational school or 2 or 4 year college. Applicants must be a resident of the National Capital Area (DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia); and must be an LSS/NCA client (or former client) who wishes to pursue post-secondary, vocational, or technical education. Scholarships may be awarded to one or more applicants.
Dr. Elizabeth Kreiser Weisburger Scholarship $ 4,000 (current estimated value)
Consideration for the award will be weighted towards a promising applicant who has demonstrated the ability to achieve in the face of adversity. The scholarship will enable him/her to pursue an undergraduate education at an accredited 2 or 4 year college. No awards will be granted for vocational studies.
The Dr. Elizabeth Kreiser Weisburger Scholarship is given in honor of the life and work of Dr. Weisburger. Applicants for the Weisburger scholarship must be a client of a Lutheran Social Ministry organization in the ELCA Metropolitan Washington, DC Synod. These organizations include:
- Community Family Life Services
- Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area, Inc.
- N Street Village
- National Lutheran Communities and Services
- New Course Restaurant and Catering
- Southeast Ministry
- Housing Up
