Washington, DC--Northwest

RECEPTIONIST/OFFICE ASSISTANT-- Adoption/Foster Care
Answer telephones, greet visitors, update files, data entry, and assist with special projects, such as sending birthday cards or creating photo displays.

TUTOR/MENTOR-- Adoption/Foster Care
Meet with a foster family for a few hours each week to help children with homework assignments.  As available, take a foster teen on outings and other local activities to be a friend and encourage them.

BABY SHOWER COORDINATOR-- Adoption/Foster Care
Work with staff to organize a baby shower for a new foster family. Coordinate logistics, invitations, refreshments, and activities for the party. Most of all, being a friend and encouraging independence Training and support provided.

OFFICE ASSISTANT-- Stewardship/Administration
Answer telephones, update files, data entry, and assist with special mailings.

 

Virginia

TUTOR/MENTOR--Refugee/Immigrant Services
Meet with a family or individual for a few hours each week to help with English and to answer questions about the U.S. At times, assisting with household orientation, opening a bank account, and obtaining a driver's license. Most of all, being a friend and encouraging independence. Training and support provided.  Alexandria and Falls Church locations.

EMPLOYMENT AIDE-- Refugee/Immigrant Services
Lead a refugee along the road to self-sufficiency by providing orientation to the U.S. workplace, looking for job opportunities, conducting practice interviews, and following-up with employers.  Alexandria and Falls Church locations.

INTERPRETER-- Refugee/Immigrant Services
Bosnian, Vietnamese, Somali, Arabic, and Haitian Creole speakers needed to translate for medical appointments and orientations.  Alexandria and Falls Church locations.

SPECIALIST-- Refugee/Immigrant Services
Share specialized skills to help a refugee make their way in their new country. Alexandria and Falls Church locations.

Driving Instructor: Help to pass the written and road tests.

Bus/Metro Instructor: Assist with bus and metro routes, tickets, schedules, and transfers.

Shopping: Provide orientation to understanding unit pricing, comparison shopping, coupons, and budgeting.

Transportation: Be available for trips to the doctor, job interviews, social services appointments.

Orientation/Acculturation: Teach basic survival skill workshops and explain U.S. culture, customs, and laws.

Maryland

CHILDREN'S ACTIVITY COORDINATOR-- Adoption/Foster Care
Supervise a group of foster children for a few hours, arranging for activities and snacks while their parents attend a support group meeting.  Bi-monthly, Saturday mornings.  Prince George's/Montgomery Counties.

EVENT COORDINATOR-- Adoption/Foster Care
Organize social functions such as Christmas party, monthly "fun nights", boat rides, and picnics for groups of clients. Help to coordinate transportation and publicity.  Prince George's/Montgomery Counties.

CHILDREN'S ACTIVITY LEADER-- AIDS Camp
Assist campers in crafts or recreation activities on site at camp for children affected and/or infected with HIV-AIDS.  Volunteers needed for one or more 90-minute sessions on various days.  Camp is located in Jefferson, Maryland.  August, 2007.

YOUTH COUNSELOR-- AIDS Camp
Participate in leadership team to provide outdoor recreation and enrichment program in residence with campers.  Training and orientation August 14-15 required.  Camp is located in Jefferson, Maryland.  August, 2007.

REGISTERED NURSE OR CNA-- AIDS Camp
Assist nursing team with administration of medications, records and oversight of health of campers.  All shifts needed.  Housing and meals provided. Minimum of one 8-hr shift requested.  Jefferson, Maryland.  August, 2007.
