Special Social Programming
In addition to the essential case management and employment services, LSS/NCA also offers a range of on-going supportive social programs to newcomers. The programs change depending on the needs of new arrivals, but they are all designed to reinforce self-sufficiency and community integration. Clients may choose to explore topics such as health education, legal documentation, and finances.
Unaccompanied Refugee Minors
Refugee Services works in conjunction with our Foster Care Program to provide unaccompanied refugee children hope and safety after fleeing abuse and unrest in their home countries. Visit our foster care page for more information and learn how you can make a difference for these children in need.
Immigration & Citizenship Counseling Services
As a refugee, asylee, or immigrant in the United States, it can be hard to learn new legal processes and documentation requirements. LSS/NCA offers one-on-one Immigration and Citizenship Counseling Services to help with these unique needs in completing, submitting, and receiving the following immigration documents: Adjustment of Permanent Resident Status (green card), Travel Document, Temporary Protected Status, Removal of Conditional Permanent Status, Employment Authorization Documents, Naturalization, and more. LSS/NCA’s Immigration and Citizenship Counseling Services is offered at an affordable rate to help you reach your goals. For more information, contact Mamadou Sy (SyM@lssnca.org).
Refugee Recertification Program
Many refugees and asylees arrive with years of experience in fields such as accounting, IT, teaching, engineering, and nursing. These individuals face significant challenges joining the American workforce in a professional position because the advanced degrees and licenses from their home countries are not recognized by U.S. employers. LSS/NCA can assist refugees in finding the resources they need to navigate the complex recertification and licensing processes, and ultimately secure a position working in their field of expertise.
