Foster Care & Permanency
Each year, as many as 500,000 children in the United States enter the foster care system, including children who have been temporarily removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect and unaccompanied refugee minors (URM) torn from their families by war and violence. . Working in partnership with the District of Columbia Child and Family Services Administration (CFSA), children who have been removed from their home are temporarily placed with foster families until they find permanent adoptive homes or can be reunified with their families.
Foster families provide critical support to these children at a critical juncture. Through patience, faith, and love, foster parents help children regain their sense of security and confidence so they can believe in themselves and their futures. While the job of a foster parent can have its challenges, it is an opportunity to have a tremendously positive influence on a child’s life.
