Adoption/Birth Parent Services
Lutheran Social Services established its first child placement
program in 1956. We are licensed to provide child-placing services to
prospective adoptive families in the District of Columbia, Maryland and
Virginia, within a 50-mile radius of the District of Columbia. The agency
is non-sectarian and has no religious requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
What type of children do you place?
LSS/NCA provides services for all children available for
adoptive placement, whether domestic or foreign born. This includes
children of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, all ages and those with special
needs or handicapping conditions.
Do you do international placement?
No, we do not have an international placement program. But we make
referrals to accredited international agencies for families which are interested
in international adoption. We also provide home studies and post-placement
supervision. We are members of the
Lutheran Adoption Network (LAN) that places children from all over the
world.
Who can adopt? Couples
and individuals in their 20's through 50's who are able to provide a stable,
secure and loving home environment for a child--families with or without
children; working parents; families living in apartments or private homes.
Eligibility criteria in relation to age, marital status, sex, income or
handicapping conditions may vary according to the needs of a specific child or
child-placement source.
